Daimler India Appoints Rajiv Chaturvedi as President & Chief Business Officer

In a significant leadership shift poised to shape the future of its domestic business, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has appointed Rajiv Chaturvedi as its new President and Chief Business Officer – Domestic Sales & Customer Service, effective April 1, 2025.

With more than three decades of hands-on leadership across diverse facets of the heavy machinery and commercial vehicle industries, Chaturvedi steps into this pivotal role at a time when the brand is strategically recalibrating for its next growth chapter. His expertise? A formidable blend of business strategy, market development, and operational execution—precisely the trifecta needed to energize DICV’s BharatBenz brand as it navigates an increasingly competitive Indian market.

Chaturvedi’s professional footprint spans leading roles at Hyundai Construction Equipment India, where he spearheaded a remarkable transformation. Under his leadership, the company witnessed a 20% annual revenue surge and a jaw-dropping 200% rise in operating profit between 2022 and 2024. Before that, his tenure at Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery further cemented his reputation as a results-driven strategist with a sharp eye for market dynamics.

Now at the helm of DICV’s domestic operations, Chaturvedi is tasked with steering growth, tightening operational efficiencies, and sharpening the brand’s presence across India’s ever-evolving commercial landscape. His deep industry insights, especially in construction and heavy-duty sectors, are expected to infuse fresh energy into the BharatBenz roadmap.

He steps into the shoes of Sreeram Venkateswaran, who led the domestic business from August 2023 until March 2025. Venkateswaran played a key role in sculpting DICV’s India blueprint, laying down the go-to-market foundation that BharatBenz continues to build upon.

This leadership transition comes amid a mixed backdrop. In 2024, DICV’s unit sales dipped by 23%—from 25,435 units in 2023 to 21,434. Yet, despite the volume drop, the company achieved a staggering fivefold increase in net profit, hitting ₹1,787 crore in FY24. What fueled this surge? A robust demand for higher-margin products such as tippers and tractor-trailers, along with growing momentum in its bus segment.

Clearly, DICV is betting big on Chaturvedi’s ability to not just maintain this momentum but to accelerate it. As the commercial vehicle sector grapples with shifting market expectations and economic cycles, his leadership is expected to bring both stability and strategic boldness.

With this appointment, DICV signals a clear intent: to drive forward, reimagine its domestic playbook, and strengthen its position as a formidable force in India’s transport ecosystem.
