Olectra Greentech to Supply 297 Electric Buses to HRTC

In a landmark move towards a more sustainable future, Olectra Greentech Limited has bagged a monumental ₹424 crore deal with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). The company is set to supply and maintain 297 state-of-the-art electric buses—a significant step forward in the state's green mobility mission. The deal, which also includes the maintenance of these buses, is slated for completion within the next 11 months, marking a major milestone in Himachal Pradesh's push to electrify public transportation.

But that’s not all. This move is part of a broader initiative, a strategy designed to revolutionize the state's entire transport system. The Himachal Pradesh government has approved a plan to install 402 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across key government premises. This will include installations at Public Works Department (PWD) rest houses, Forest Department facilities, and various other strategic locations, ensuring the seamless operation of electric vehicles throughout the state.

The state's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, emphasized the significance of this initiative, noting that the introduction of these charging stations would play a vital role in boosting EV adoption across government departments. "This project will not only make it easier for state-run buses to switch to electric but will also serve as a catalyst for encouraging citizens to embrace sustainable modes of transport," Sukhu stated.

At present, the state of Himachal Pradesh has seen the registration of 4,997 electric vehicles, with plans to induct 500 electric taxis under a new e-taxi scheme. The government's efforts are clear: to make green mobility accessible to everyone, everywhere.

This partnership between Olectra Greentech and HRTC is set to become a defining moment in the journey towards a greener India. The electric buses, once deployed, will contribute to reducing the state's carbon footprint, making a tangible difference in the fight against climate change.

The announcement has sent ripples through the market, with Olectra Greentech’s stock price soaring by over 4%. This uptick underscores investor confidence in the company’s role in shaping the future of sustainable transport in India.

The integration of 297 electric buses into the state’s public transport network, combined with the vast expansion of charging infrastructure, is set to reduce air pollution, ease congestion, and offer a more sustainable mode of transportation to the people of Himachal Pradesh.

With green mobility taking center stage in India’s development agenda, this project is just the beginning. Himachal Pradesh, with its breathtaking landscapes and commitment to sustainability, is leading the way. And as the nation gears up to meet its environmental goals, initiatives like these will prove pivotal in transforming the transportation sector for good.
