As of February 2, 2024, India has seen substantial growth in public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with 12,146 charging stations available. This is a notable increase from 6,586 stations recorded on March 21, 2023. The majority of these stations are situated in urban areas, with cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai having the highest concentration of charging points.
Electric vehicles (EVs) operate using an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. The process begins when the car is plugged into a charging station or wall outlet to draw energy from the grid. This energy is stored in the battery, which powers the vehicle. When you drive, the battery releases energy to the electric motor, which then drives the wheels and propels the car forward. This efficient system allows for a smooth and eco-friendly driving experience.
A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) combines a traditional internal combustion engine with an electric motor. The engine powers the car and charges the battery, while the electric motor provides extra boost for acceleration and uses regenerative braking to recover energy when you slow down. HEVs are great because they offer better fuel efficiency and lower emissions than regular gas-powered cars, giving you the best of both worlds.
A battery management system (BMS) is an essential part of an electric vehicle (EV) that oversees and regulates the battery's functionality to ensure safety and efficiency. The BMS safeguards the battery against damage, overheating, overcharging, and over-discharging. Additionally, it manages the energy flow between the battery and the vehicle’s systems, optimizing energy usage to enhance the battery's performance and longevity.

In India, the adoption of electric commercial vehicles (ECVs) is gaining momentum as the government pushes for sustainable transportation solutions. ECVs, such as electric buses, trucks, and three-wheelers, are particularly beneficial in urban areas, helping to reduce air pollution and noise levels. Furthermore, the shift towards electric commercial vehicles is expected to create new job opportunities in manufacturing, and maintenance, contributing to a greener economy while addressing the urgent need for cleaner air in cities.
