The high growth in goods-based E-Rickshaws signifies an expanding last-mile delivery ecosystem in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, driven by e-commerce and food-tech platforms.

March 2025 Trends

March closed with 99,376 units, witnessing a -5.67% YoY decline despite a 5.52% MoM increase. The slowdown is partially explained by:

  • Kharmas period, during which vehicle buying is considered inauspicious
  • Slightly subdued demand post-festival surge
  • Financing tightness and oversaturation in urban pockets

Urban vs Rural (March 2025)

  • Urban retail declined by -6.53% YoY
  • Rural retail also dropped by -4.84% YoY, hinting at market saturation or affordability barriers

EV Penetration in 3Ws: The segment is India’s most electrified, with EVs comprising 57.3% of total 3W sales in FY’25, and an even higher 59.9% in March 2025.

Leading OEMs (FY’25)

  • Bajaj Auto dominated with 35.84% market share
  • Piaggio and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility followed with 7.32% and 6.30% respectively
  • EV players like YC Electric, Saera Electric, and Dilli Electric retained niche but significant presences

Looking Ahead

While the overall momentum in the 3W sector is promising—especially in rural markets—the March figures indicate a need for cautious optimism. Ensuring easier financing access and avoiding over-targeting in urban areas will be key to sustaining growth.
