The EKA E9 Electric Bus Gets CMVR Certification From ARAI

Electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, EKA, a sustainable, profitable & efficient EV solution company announces that the brand has received the Central Motor Vehicle Rules certification for its electric bus- the E9. The certification has been received from the Automotive Research Association of India. This is a critical step for testing and selling the 9-metre- EKA E9 Electric bus in the Indian commercial vehicle market.

The EKA E9 electric bus was showcased in April this year and is believed to be powered by a 200 kW motor and a battery pack that offers a driving range of 200 kilometres on a single charge. The interior components such as seats and dashboard among others are being provided by Pinnacle industries which is a speciality vehicle maker in India. The E9 has a 31 people seating capacity excluding the driver and has a standing capacity as well.

Further, the company has announced that EKA has passed the safety requirements and criteria for attaining the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)- an automotive testing and certification body governed by and affiliated with the Ministry of Industries and Public Enterprise of India.

EKA has stated that the company focuses on manufacturing a sustainable and efficient vehicle that does not contribute to carbon emissions. The brand aims to decarbonisation the commercial automobile sector through its reliable, sustainable and efficient electro-mobility solutions. It further plans on creating efficient EV solutions to accelerate the mass adoption of electric vehicles in India.

Sudhir Mehta, founder-Chairman, EKA mentions, “The company and the whole team are proud of the achievement. The team has done a good job in receiving the certification within a short period of time through their hard work and dedication. Overall, the company can now focus on ramping up the production process and delivery of electric buses to its customers.

Furthermore, UITP says that the market for electric buses sees a surge and will further grow in demand in the near future. This is because of the rate of increase in travel associated with post-pandemic. As a result of this, many travelling and last-mile delivery logistics are looking for an efficient means of travel. They are also planning on electrification of their fleet. Thus, the introduction of the EKA E9 bus comes at the right time.
