Driving a truck involves many risks that can put the driver and others on the road in danger. Even though driving a truck has its own perks like good income and job security, there are problems like driver fatigue, a major cause of road accidents in the country.

Driver fatigue is quite common in the long haulage business since drivers have to stay behind the wheel for long hours, sometimes even without a break to deliver goods on time. However, it is important for truck drivers to take enough rest instead of staying behind the wheel even as they feel tired. We say this because truck drivers need to have sound sleep in order to regain energy for better productivity and to reduce driver fatigue to avoid accidents.

  1. Make your sleeper cab cosy: 

Yes, you heard it right. Try to make your sleeper cab as comfortable as possible to get a good amount of rest. You could get soft pillows and a comfy mattress to avoid back and neck pain. Also, if you like to sleep without lights on and in complete darkness, make sure to get curtains to block the light from the outside like streetlights and other sources. 

  1. Reduction of noise: 

Next, try to avoid busy rest stops, truck stops and the side of the freeway where loud or unpleasant noises that can cause a disturbance enters your cabin which could affect your sleep. You can use earplugs or noise cancellation integrated headphones to avoid noise from outside. Further, if your truck runs idle while you are sleeping, try to reduce the RPMs to make it somewhat quieter. Most drivers say that the slow rumble of the engine idling is soothing, so, try it out, it might help you sleep better!

  1. Stay healthy and exercise: 

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what really keeps the doctor away is exercising regularly during the day. Take a break while you have driven your truck for long hours and try to exercise. You could take a snack break as well to re-energize and stay active throughout the day. As per a study, exercise helps you get better sleep therefore try working out whenever you can.
