Suzuki, Daihatsu, Toyota, and CJPT To Make Electric CV

Globally leading and critically acclaimed automotive manufacturers- Suzuki Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Co, Toyota Motor Corporation and Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies (CJPT) announce an agreement wherein the said companies will work towards the market introduction of the electric mini-commercial vans, within the time period of FY2023.

As most of us are aware, mini commercial vehicles are quite popular for their driveability on small size roads for delivering the demands of the last mile logistics. As per the brands, these vehicles are widespread over 60 per cent of the commercial fleet and are said to be vehicles capable of contributing significantly to the attainment of zero carbon emissions, if electrification advances.

However, it has been identified by the companies that higher vehicle ownership costs, the costs related to charging infrastructure, the charging time and downtime wherein they are not in operation, are factors that affect people and are associated with the electrification of commercial vehicles.

Nonetheless, the aforementioned companies have decided that the electrification of commercial-based minivans must not affect the customers in any sort of way. Hence, CJPT will take part in the planning process and Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota will jointly develop a BEV system suitable for mini-commercial vehicles. It has been decided that Suzuki and Daihatsu's knowledge in manufacturing mini vehicles will be combined with Toyota's electrification technology to build the ultimate electric mini-commercial vans.

Moreover, the focus of the brands is to achieve carbon neutrality through the provision of sustainable means of mobility. This news comes at a time when the automotive world has become the major contributor to carbon emissions due to its internal combustion-based engines. While all the automobile manufacturers are turning heads toward electrification of their fleet with currently available tech and gizmos, companies such as Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu and CJPT are trying to create advanced electrification technologies and solutions to attain carbon neutrality.

Suzuki Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Co, Toyota Motor Corporation and Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies (CJPT) have also announced that their mini-commercial van BEV will be used by partners in social implementation projects in Fukushima Prefecture and Tokyo.

Although electrification seems like the future of mobility by major brands across the world, many automotive manufacturers are focusing on shifting their platforms to create CNG, LNG and mild-hybrid technology-based vehicles as they believe it is much more practical rather than the electrification of vehicles, due to the battery disposal problems, reliability issues associated with the products.
