The industry’s leading truck manufacturer, Ashok Leyland has launched its flagship medium duty truck in India, the ‘ecomet STAR 1815’. While the country has a wide array of trucks from brands like Tata Motors and BharatBenz to haul goods, Ashok Leyland and its products have taken the limelight for standing the test of time with their durability. The ecomet STAR 1815 of the 17.5 T GVW category is one such product that is said to carry on the brand’s legacy.
The brand promises higher payload capacity accompanied by better mileage. Ashok Leyland has presented the ecomet STAR 1815 as a medium-duty truck that has best-in-class payload capacity and superior mileage for fleet owners and customers who are in the search for a highly productive vehicle in the market.
Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Head- MHCV, Ashok Leyland mentioned at the launch event that, “Ashok Leyland is complimenting the rapid growth of ICV segment by regular launch of differentiated products. With the new Ecomet STAR 1815, we set our footprint in the 17.5T segment and ensure higher profitability for our customers in logistics, e-commerce, Parcel, Agri- Perishable, Cement and Industrial goods applications.”
As for its powertrain and other aspects, the Ashok Leyland ecomet STAR 1815 comes loaded with an H Series engine that has the capacity to churn out 150Hp and 450Nm of peak torque. Further, as per the brand’s claim, it comes with a payload of 11.74T (20ft HSD). The vehicle runs on 295/90 R20 section Tube Tyres which seems a bit outdated but does the job very well if you would have to ask us.
Other than the aforementioned, the truck comes in different cabin options and loading spans. As far as we know, the ecomet STAR 1815 comes in 20ft /22ft /24ft with “Day Cabin”. It also comes with a loading span of 20ft & 22ft combined with a “Sleeper Cabin”
Furthermore, the truck rolls on a 10-wheel bolt front and rear axle coupled to an HSS (High Strength Steel) frame which is 7mm thick.
Other than the said technical and mechanical aspects, the truck also comes loaded with features such as a digital dashboard with Advanced Digital Driver Assist (ADDA), and a spacious and sturdy cabin which is state-of-the-art. In terms of safety, the ecomet STAR 1815 has Advanced telematics (i-Alert), and remote diagnostics with 24×7 customer assistance through Uptime Solution Centre as well.
In conclusion, the industry has been pushing further in creating best-in-class and superior mileage delivering trucks in India, however, Ashok Leyland is at the pinnacle when it comes to presenting innovative and unique trucks suitable for the Indian roads.
