In a significant development, the Centre of Excellence in Energy and Telecommunications (CEET) at IITM Research Park proudly introduces a homegrown DC portable charger for 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers. What's special about this charger? It's entirely designed and made in India through a collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
This new charger symbolizes a key step in decreasing India's reliance on imported charging solutions, aligning perfectly with MeitY's goal of boosting the use of electric vehicles in the nation. What's even more noteworthy is that this charger is specifically crafted to cope with India's unique temperature conditions, and it boasts an impressive efficiency rate of over 95%. Safety? No worries, the chargers adhere to the IEC 60950-1 safety standard.
The charger design incorporates some clever features. For instance, it has an optional function that lets it communicate with the vehicle's battery. This means the charger can adapt the charging process according to what the battery needs. Additionally, there are hooks in place for IoT, enabling real-time tracking of charging-related data. And if that's not enough, the charger can be adjusted to cater to the specific requirements of different vehicle manufacturers based on the manufacturing volume.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, expressed his pride in the collaboration. He noted, "IITM Research Park is now an internationally recognized brand. The Park is vibrant and effervescent, constantly innovating and promoting new initiatives. The new 2 KW EV charger designed in the Park and using recycled material is an important step forward. MeitY is very proud of being associated with this venture."
This achievement marks a milestone for the Indian electric vehicle industry. With an efficient, 'Made-In-India' charger catering to the nation's unique conditions, electric mobility takes a big step forward.
