Truck driving can be a tough task which could involve loads of stress and a lot at stake. However, among different things, there is something that every truck driver would like to consider to keep them happy and less bored on journeys but more importantly, avoid stress. Curious to know what it could be? Well, it's having pets along during long haulage days when things could get a bit difficult. 

Speaking about pets what else is better than having man’s best friend right? Yes guys, it's man’s best companion, a dog! While having a dog as a pet is a dream for many drivers since they are known to protect, stay loyal to their owners and make every journey special, there are things which need to be considered before buying or adopting one.

  1. Food and Water: 

Let's begin with the basics. As a truck driver, your job is to transport cargo efficiently and in a timely manner, however, what is even more important to consider is providing your pet dog with food and water on time. You wouldn't want your buddy to be tired and dehydrated right? So make sure to keep their water bowl filled at all times. 

  1. Exercise: 

Next, you need to make sure that your furry buddy gets enough exercise like you need to keep yourself fit at all times. If you stop at a truck bay or at a rest stop, make sure to take your pal for a walk. Dogs need to run around to stay in the best health condition.

  1. Access for business: 

By business we mean restroom business, after all, quite obviously, they too are living and breathing organisms, so make sure to take them for a walk for them to carry on their business peacefully. 

  1. Choosing the right pet: 

Next, if you are a truck driver who is still planning to get a dog, our advice would be “DO IT”. However, while most drivers think that small dogs would be best, rethink, because they are known to bark the most. When picking a dog also make sure that they are not senior or older dogs. 

  1. Checklist for drivers with dogs: 
  • Keep fresh water and food available at all times.
  • Be sure to not leave your pet in the vehicle without A/C ON.
  • Clean the cabin and bed since they accumulate fur and dirt from their paws.
  • Bring lint-rollers since pets tend to shed fur.
  • Try always to get them vaccinated on time.
