Kalyani Powertrain And Harbinger Announce Joint Venture

Renowned supplier of chassis and powertrain components, Kalyani Powertrain Limited (KPTL)- a subsidiary of Bharat Forge Ltd inks a formal agreement with Harbinger Motors Inc. (Harbinger) to form a joint venture which focuses on developing electric drivetrain solutions for revolutionising the commercial vehicle market.

The joint venture under the name ElectroForge will utilise the partnership to offer best-in-class drivetrains meant for the Class 3 through 8 markets, delivering superior efficiency, reliability and cost competency. Under the newly formed partnership, the company is focusing on leveraging the experience that Harbinger’s acclaimed EV team has and the vast manufacturing knowledge and scalability of Bharat Forge in order to offer top-class commercial vehicle drivetrains to the CV industry.

“This collaboration marks the beginning of a new chapter for commercial electric powertrains,” said John Harris, CEO of Harbinger. “Both companies bring class-leading manufacturing and intellectual capital that enables us to scale an industry solution that will blend efficiency with unmatched value.”

The company plans to begin operations at KPTL’s facility in Pune, India to utilise the cutting edge and advanced technology to construct high-power, low-mass drivetrains engineered and tailored specifically for reliability, durability and superior performance requirements of commercial vehicles. This joint venture will serve as the volume manufacturer of electric powertrains for Harbinger, leveraging KPTL’s global manufacturing experience in India, Europe, and North America.
